New SPAWN Film Directed by Todd McFarlane Announced!

In a bit of an unconventional way via his own Facebook page, SPAWN creator Todd McFarlane has officially announced that a brand new SPAWN film is happening. In the announcement, standing alongside Kevin Smith, McFarlane added that the film will be produced by Blumhouse Productions the studio behind GET OUT, SPLIT, and the PARANORMAL ACTIVITY series. Can you believe it’s been 20 years since the original film released!? This new SPAWN film will not be a sequel, but instead a hard-R rated reboot. Sounds good to us. McFarlane will serve as scriptwriter and director for the project. No official...

New THOR: RAGNAROK Trailer Wins Everything

I don’t feel like I need to write a lot about the new THOR: RAGNAROK trailer. It really speaks for itself. This third outing for the god of Thunder looks to be the best by far. I think it’s fair to say the THOR films are great, but still among the weaker of the AVENGERS series in the MCU. Add some Hulk, sprinkle in the tone of GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY, and give us more Loki and you pretty much have a guaranteed success on your hands. Instead of me writing more, I think you should just watch the...

New JUSTICE LEAGUE Trailer Actually Looks Cool

If you think about it, “Phase 1” of the new DC Cinematic Universe consists of MAN OF STEEL, BATMAN V SUPERMAN: DAWN OF JUSTICE, SUICIDE SQUAD, and the recent WONDER WOMAN so far. There area lot of ups and downs in that lineup as DC struggles to find their footing that can please the masses. MAN OF STEEL was perfect, BvS and SUICIDE SQUAD where better than the critics say but definitely a little lackluster, and WONDER WOMAN was definitely cool but not mind-blowing. So it’s understandable that fans are a bit skeptical with JUSTICE LEAGUE. That said, this new...

Netflix’s THE DEFENDERS Gets a Solid New Trailer

Marvel and Netflix’s little streaming TV show experiment is about to pay off with the upcoming release of THE DEFENDERS. We’re about to find out if Marvel’s formula for the big screen can work on the small screen. No matter how you feel about the 4 shows leading up to THE DEFENDERS, I think this is going to be damn cool. DAREDEVIL season 1 and season 2 (basically THE PUNISHER Season 1) showed us just how great Marvel can be on TV. JESSICA JONES and LUKE CAGE may not have reached the heights of DAREDEVIL, but they were still...

PACIFIC RIM 2: UPRISING Teaser Trailer!

Sometimes I forget there’s a PACIFIC RIM sequel coming our way in 2018. That can happen when there’s a 5+ year chunk of time in between installments. At least it’s not as long of a wait as the inevitable AVATAR sequel(s). So it could be worse. Either way PACIFIC RIM 2: UPRISING is heading our way, and thanks to joblo.com, we get our first tease (above). PACIFIC RIM 2: UPRISING takes place 7 years after the events of the first installment. The world is still in need of the Yeager Project to defend Earth against the Kaiju threat. We lost...

STAR WARS: THE LAST JEDI Behind The Scenes Video

While a lot of fans were hoping to get a brand new THE LAST JEDI trailer at Disney’s recent D23 Expo, I think giving us this new behind-the-scenes look is a much better deal. Sure I would love to see more footage, but I’ve always appreciated how STAR WARS trailers never really give anything away or spoil too much. Of course they have the benefit of knowing everyone and their mother will see this no matter what they do, but I still appreciate it nonetheless. My overall hope here is that THE FORCE AWAKES was purposefully “safe” to reel...

What time is it? It’s NERD:30 of course! In our third episode Mark Espinosa and Matt DeLight do battle as they debate which version of STAR TREK is better; JJ Abrams rebooted series or the original. Which one is your favorite? “The Rules: in NERD:30 there is 1 topic and 2 opposing views. Each contestant has 60 seconds to say their piece and must drink an entire can of beer while doing so. And if they don’t finish their beer, they get a pie in the face because it’s a damn classic.” STAR TREK INTO DARKNESS Movie Review /...

TRANSFORMERS: THE LAST KNIGHT Movie Review

Art by Jean Chen I’m a Michael Bay sympathizer. BAD BOYS 1 & 2, THE ROCK, ARMAGEDDON, THE ISLAND, and the first three TRANSFORMERS films are some damn good times at the theatre! I know it’s “cool” to hate on the man, but I just can’t. I think he has a very unique visual style, he knows his way around an action sequence, and he’s not afraid to make something simply for entertainment value. I can respect that. That said, I think it may be time for Bay to step away from this franchise and move on to other...

Help Save Pepe the Frog on Kickstarter!

“Before Pepe the Frog was a meme designated a hate symbol by the Anti-Defamation League, he began his life as a blissfully stoned frog in my comic book Boy’s Club where he enjoyed a simple life of snacks, soda and pulling his pants all the way down to go pee. Boy’s Club debuted in 2006, Pepe became a meme around 2010, then stuck around the internet long enough to become an institutionally recognized hate mascot. Needless to say it’s a nightmare so I killed him off. But now I’d like to bring him back, and I’d like to ask...

THE MUMMY (2017) Movie Review

Art by Mike McG THE MUMMY is way better than you think. It’s one of those films that people just love to hate before they even see the damn thing. First of all, it stars Tom Cruise. People love to hate him. Personally, I think he’s the greatest actor currently working and I think people (and you!) need to cut him some slack. Say what you will about his personal life if it makes you feel superior, but as an actor, he delivers the goods and then some. Secondly, THE MUMMY is the foundation for Universal’s new DARK UNIVERSE...

Top 5 Comic Book Picks for May 2017

1. JEAN GREY #2 / Marvel Comics Written by Dennis Hopeless / Art by Victor Ibanez This book totally took me by surprise and was hands down the most fun I had this month reading comics. I make it no secret that I’ve been pretty bored with the X-MEN books ever since Marvel’s SECRET WARS mega-event concluded. The absence of the legacy characters Cyclops, Wolverine, and Jean Grey have really hurt this book. And I’ve been less than impressed with the younger time-displaced versions of the original X-Men for over a year now. That said, Marvel has been relaunching...

E3 2017: Nintendo Announces METROID: SAMUS RETURNS

Nintendo has officially announced METROID: SAMUS RETURNS heading to the Nintendo 3DS this year on September 15th, 2017. During this year’s E3 showcase, Nintendo revealed that METROID PRIME 4 is in development for Nintendo Switch. Surprisingly, SAMUS RETURNS was not included in that showcase but later during a live-streaming event. In any case, this is great news for METROID fans like myself desperate for a proper game in the franchise starring Samus. METROID: SAMUS RETURNS is a re-imagining of METROID II: RETURN OF SAMUS which was released on the original Gameboy. It’s great to see that Nintendo is committed...

E3 2017: Nintendo Spotlight Review and Impressions

Now that all the heavy hitters including Sony, Microsoft, EA, Bethesda, and Ubisoft have shown us their goods, it’s time for Nintendo to do a very “Nintendo” thing and have a digital “showcase” rather than a proper conference like the rest of the gang. And as always, Nintendo delivers. The showcase kicked off with a solid look at XENOBLADE CHRONICLES 2 coming to the Nintendo Switch Holiday 2017. This has always been a fun franchise, and I’m glad Nintendo keeps releasing these in the US. Hopefully putting this on the Switch will get the franchise more attention. We then...
