The “Summer Blockbuster” season hasn’t even started yet and already I can’t wait for Fall 2013 because that’s when THOR: THE DARK WORLD thunders into theaters!  But at least we’re given a peek at all the hammer-smashing action with the recently released teaser trailer.  The film’s official plot synopsis is as follows:

Marvel’s THOR: THE DARK WORLD continues the big-screen adventures of Thor, the Mighty Avenger, as he battles to save Earth and all the Nine Realms from a shadowy enemy that predates the universe itself. In the aftermath of Marvel’s THOR and Marvel’s THE AVENGERS, Thor fights to restore order across the cosmos…but an ancient race led by the vengeful Malekith returns to plunge the universe back into darkness. Faced with an enemy that even Odin and Asgard cannot withstand, Thor must embark on his most perilous and personal journey yet, one that will reunite him with Jane Foster and force him to sacrifice everything to save us all.

So far the film is looking pretty epic with Chris Hemsworth (THE AVENGERS) in full-on “Asgardian warrior” mode as Thor, the return of Natalie Portman (BLACK SWAN) as Jane Foster, overwhelming invading hordes and giant battles that may put the Avenger’s fight with the Chitauri to shame, Christopher Eccleston (G.I. JOE: THE RISE OF COBRA) looking creepy as hell as the new big baddie Malekith and Thor having to possibly make an uneasy alliance with an old nemesis. IRON MAN 3 may be starting out the summer in a big way, but THOR: THE DARK WORLD is definitely looking to be a contender for Top Dog during the holidays!

I, for one, can’t wait.  I really thoroughly enjoyed the first THOR from Director Kenneth Branagh and thought it tackled the more mystical/magical aspects of the character well in context to the more scientifically-based Marvel Cinematic Universe and that the character’s integration into THE AVENGERS was the most natural and welcome addition (the Thor/Hulk fight was, without a doubt, one of my favorite scenes).  Let’s hope that new Director Alan Taylor (KILL THE POOR) “brings the lightning” when THOR: THE DARK WORLD hits US theaters November 8, 2013 (UK cinemas will have it by October 30th…lucky bastards)!
