When I first heard that THE X-FILES might be returning to television, I wanted to believe. The skeptic in me was quick to crumble my hopes and dreams. Perhaps, I had just gotten swept up in the potential of something so marvelous, that I allowed myself to ignore my better judgement. I told myself that it’s okay to believe, but, perhaps I should believe in something with actual potential. Something like, I don’t know, FIREFLY returning to television (haha!). Then, like a probe to my mind’s butt, Fox went and made me a believer. THE X-FILES IS OFFICIALLY COMING BACK TO TELEVISION!!
Granted, it’s not going to be returning for a full season, but, it will be returning as a ‘six-episode event series.’ While there is no official air date, they did announce that production will begin this summer and will be featuring the return of original show runner Chris Carter, Gillian Anderson and David Duchovny. Smoke ’em if you got ’em.
What does this mean? Well, for starters, you have plenty of time to re-watch the original 202 episodes of the series and its two movies before the show actually returns (If you’re so inclined, you could track down episodes of THE LONE GUNMEN and MILLENNIUM). Can you believe this? Did you ever think you would see the return of THE X-FILES? It raised the bar for every Sci-Fi/supernatural procedural that has aired in its wake and is still beloved by millions of fans. This is going to be out of this world. Holy shit, if they throw in Walter Bishop and the FRINGE team… I may actually explode into a million little worm things!
