Thanks to Joblo.com I have learned that Legendary Pictures (who recently gained the rights to GODZILLA in 2010) has finally found their director for the upcoming GODZILLA reboot that you probably didn’t even know existed. The lucky man is Gareth Edwards who recently made his film directorial debut with the cult indie hit MONSTERS. While MONSTERS was not what I expected, I did enjoy it considering its very low budget and unknown talent. While MONSTERS did not focus on Monsters actually destroying things or fighting, it did have great character development and a real human story beneath it all. While I don’t want anything to get in the way of my mindless monster fun, I would be open to adding a good story with interesting characters to a GODZILLA movie as long as shit still blew up constantly. Edwards is obviously a fan of the genre and a fresh new talent in the industry. Stay tuned for updates such as an official title and cast.
The GODZILLA reboot is due sometime in 2012.
