With J.J. Abrams exiting stage left into that galaxy far far away, it’s time for some new blood to take the helm of the beloved STAR TREK franchise. Enter FAST & FURIOUS director Justin Lin. Apologies to anyone that complains this franchise reboot is too action heavy because Lin is not only matching previous films’ action, but he look to amp it up to 11. That’s really fine by me because I have always enjoyed the action heavy moments in this series and I have confidence Lin is here to bring in some fun.
“Star Trek Beyond,” the highly anticipated next installment in the globally popular Star Trek franchise, created by Gene Roddenberry and reintroduced by J.J. Abrams in 2009, returns with director Justin Lin (“The Fast and the Furious” franchise) at the helm of this epic voyage of the U.S.S. Enterprise and her intrepid crew. In “Beyond,” the Enterprise crew explores the furthest reaches of uncharted space, where they encounter a mysterious new enemy who puts them and everything the Federation stands for to the test.
By the looks of this new (second) trailer, the whole gang gets back together (yay!), then they get devastatingly separated (boo!), and then the band slowly gets back together after each get their own little adventure. Ok, it’s a pretty cool formula for a TREK movie emphasizing the whole team and all that jazz. I’m just a little worries some may get a sense of déjà vu. I mean, how many times does the damn Enterprise get blown to shit and our heroes end up on a new planet? I’ll give you a clue…a lot. I do however appreciate that they are venturing deep into uncharted space meeting new creatures and seeing new landscapes. Whatever the case, this looks like good old fashion sic-fi action adventure and I’m all in!
STAR TREK BEYOND crash lands July 22nd 2016.
