For Immediate Release:

DAVID BOWIE’S LEGACY EXPLORED THROUGH ART

MOONAGE DAYDREAM–opening March 4th, 2016 at Roll Up Gallery in San Francisco–is an art show tribute to the faces and phases of David Bowie. This event showcases work from over 20 Bay Area artists working in a variety of styles and media, including Lindsay McMinn (creator of the header image above), Jon Stich (know for his illustration work for the SF Giants), and Marc Scheff (Everyday Original co-founder and curator). The complete list of participating artists can be found at the event website listed below. This show seeks to grapples with the life and recent death of the legendary recording artist, as well as the sci-fi, pop culture, and radical identity themes present throughout his oeuvre.

In addition to the visual artwork on display, the opening event will also feature a DJ set from Adam “the Cat Man of West Oakland” Myatt and a special live musical performance by Lady Stardust, an “(almost) all-female David Bowie cover band.” Formerly based out of San Francisco, this will be Lady Stardust’s first Bay Area show since 2014. More information about the band and their unique approach to the Bowie catalogue can be found at frontwoman Laurel Butler’s website, laurelbutler.com/lady-stardust.

ABOUT THE ORGANIZERS:

For the past four years, they have organized and hosted the free weekly drawing event “Oakland Drink & Draw” at the New Parkway Theater in Downtown Oakland. They have also curated and hung a number of group art shows, most notably a Dune-themed exhibit from December 2014 which took place at the Oakland speculative fiction bookstore Bergeron’s.
