X-MEN: FIRST CLASS proved this franchise could be spectacular without Wolverine front and center. X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST reminded us that it was ok if Wolverine was there and honored what we love about the FIRST CLASS redirection tying the two eras together. X-MEN APOCALYPSE seems to be taking advantage of the “reset” timeline issued in the last film to deliver an absolute epic new entry in the series. The end of DAYS OF FUTURE PAST promised a refresh that would reintroduce the classic and iconic characters we know and love (Cyclops!!!), and by the looks of this trailer, we will be getting just that and then some! Feast your eyes on the official plot synopsis and trailer.
Following the critically acclaimed global smash hit X-Men: Days of Future Past, director Bryan Singer returns with X-MEN: APOCALYPSE. Since the dawn of civilization, he was worshipped as a god. Apocalypse, the first and most powerful mutant from Marvel’s X-Men universe, amassed the powers of many other mutants, becoming immortal and invincible. Upon awakening after thousands of years, he is disillusioned with the world as he finds it and recruits a team of powerful mutants, including a disheartened Magneto (Michael Fassbender), to cleanse mankind and create a new world order, over which he will reign. As the fate of the Earth hangs in the balance, Raven (Jennifer Lawrence) with the help of Professor X (James McAvoy) must lead a team of young X-Men to stop their greatest nemesis and save mankind from complete destruction.
Sure the timeline in the X-Men film universe is super bogus and often contradictory to what comic book fans expect, but dammit it’s live-action mutants on the big screen and that is damn cool if you ask me. I love some of the movies MUCH better than others, and my boy Cyclops sure has gotten the shaft, but I am very hopeful that APOCALYPSE will be a wonderful film that will entertain. It kind of feels like what FIRST CLASS should have been even though I did enjoy that film a great deal. Should this be called SECOND CLASS!?
Apocalypse is by far one of my favorite X-Villians, and this storyline looks epic as hell. And yes, I really like how Apocalypse looks in this trailer. He gets huge! I am also beyond stoked to see my favorite heroes such as Cyclops, Jean Grey, Storm, and Nightcrawler back into action. Their presence has been sorely missed in this franchise. Seeing them alongside the younger Professor X and Magneto looks so fun, and I can’t wait to see how they interact with Beast and…eerg Mystique? Ok, I kind of don’t enjoy how big a role Mystique has. She’s boring as hell. That’s my one nitpick. Ok and no Colossus. Wait that’s two. And Havok is the older brother? Shit three. Those aren’t the Horseme…ok ok I’ll stop. I could go on. Instead I will just embrace what we are getting and revel in that classic 90’s Jubilee shot. I never thought seeing a classic 90’s Jubilee would get my gears going but it did! Very cool. Where’s young Rouge and Iceman? I see Angel… but where’sGambit? Ah shit, I’m doing it again. Deep breaths Jason. All said and done I am so glad Cyclops is getting another chance in the film universe and his modified Ray-Ban sunglasses are so fucking bad ass I can’t handle it! This trailer just ignited my hype machine times ten!
X-MEN APOCALYPSE optic blasts into theatres May 27th 2016. Zzzzzrrrattttt!!!
