Anyone who was playing video games during the heyday of the Sega Dreamcast understands the importance of the SOUL CALIBUR franchise and it’s place in fighting game history. It defined the genre for years going toe-to-toe with the likes of STREET FIGHTER, MORTAL KOMBAT, and TEKKEN. I have countless memories challenging my friends on the couch arguing over who was a “button masher” vs who was actually good at the game. The beauty of a game like SOUL CALIBUR is that it is immediately accessible, yet takes a lot of time and patience to truly master. Figuring out what strategies could topple your typical “button masher” was a welcome challenge in SOUL CALIBUR.
And don’t get me started on how completely amazing it was to wield the Master Sword as Link from THE LEGEND OF ZELDA in SOUL CALIBUR 2 on Nintendo’s Gamecube. Coolest game exclusive in console history by far!
Well, it’s time to exercise those thumbs again as the next installment of this mega franchise is upon us in the form of SOUL CALIBUR VI coming to PS4, XBOX ONE, and PC in 2018. Bandai Namco has released a new trailer for the upcoming game featuring a new fighter named Grøh. He’s joined alongside classics such as Kilik, Nightmare, Mitsurugi, and Xianghua.
While I’m definitely curious to see if there will be any “guest” characters in SOUL CALIBUR VI, I’m just happy the franchise is coming back for another round.
