The sequel to X-MEN: FIRST CLASS (X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST) seems to really be picking up some serious momentum! With the most recent announcement that Hugh Jackman (REAL STEEL) would have ‘more than a cameo’ appearance, it’s looking like this film will not just simply be a sequel to the hit 2011 film, but more of a film that ‘unites’ all X-films. As of right now, here is a roll call of who is returning to the X-Universe: Jennifer Lawrence (SILVER LININGS PLAYBOOK) as Mysterique, Nicolas Hoult (WARM BODIES) as Beast, Michael Fassbender (PROMETHEUS) as young Magneto, Ian McKellen (THE HOBBIT: AN UNEXPECTED JOURNEY) as older Magneto, James McAvoy (WANTED) as young Xavier, Patrick Stewart (STAR TREK: TNG) as older Xavier and Ellen Page (JUNO) as Kitty Pride. I mean, the list goes on..
I imagine the movie’s plot will be loosely based on the famous X-MEN storyline DAYS OF FUTURE PAST. Written by Chris Claremont, with art by John Byrne. It tells the story of present and future versions of the X-MEN uniting in an attempt to stop a series of events that lead to a dystopian future where mutants are hunted to extinction and the remaining humans live under the rule of a robotic army.
The most recent interesting bit of casting is that of Peter Dinklage (GAME OF THRONES) as a unspecified character. Most people are speculating that he will be playing the role of Puck, from Alpha Flight. Any true X-MEN fan would know that this is pretty unlikely. They aren’t going to introduce an entire new team of heroes into the series. Nor are they going to introduce one random throwaway character and then have a highly prominent actor play him. My guess..
Possible spoiler?
My guess is that he will be playing the mutant minion Bantam. This makes the most sense considering that this movie will be playing heavily with time travel. Which means, that Trevor Fitzroy may be the movie’s villain. For those of you who don’t know, Trevor Fitzroy is a mutant that steals the essence of other mutants and uses that energy to travel in time. Bantam sort of acts as a ‘time anchor.’
This would be a big role for Dinklage, considering how heavily Trevor and Bantam may factor into the movie. Not only will they be on the run from the mutant resistance in the future and working with the Sentinel army to help eliminate the remaining mutant threat, but, they will also be hunted by the mutants in the present day.
Whatever the case may be, this movie may end up being the X-MEN movie all true X-Fans have been waiting for..
