The number seven has always served as an important number to Bungie. If you look throughout its history you’ll see a myriad of references to the number seven: Seven Halo rings, the first Bungie Day fell on July 7, 2007, and the word DESTINY even has seven letters.
So it only makes sense that on the seventh week in 2013 that Bungie would give the world a glimpse into its new game titled DESTINY.
Leading up to this unveiling, Bungie, the architects behind HALO and ONI, teased through Facebook and Twitter that they would reveal DESTINY to the world on Feb. 17th 2013. Living up to the hype they created they delivered in the form of a video documentary that introduced people to the world of DESTINY.

The four minute and nineteen second video dubbed “Pathways Out of Darkness” demands your attention, it introduces you to this beautiful sci-fi world that captures your imagination and lets it run wild.
DESTINY is a game set in post-apocalyptic Earth in a time after man’s golden age, a time where man spanned across the galaxy. Decimated by some unknown enemy, humanity’s last civilization now lives beneath a moon-like structure called The Traveler which saved humanity from total annihilation.
Now humanity has started to venture outside the safety of its city beneath The Traveler and fight to reclaim what it has lost. Humanity comes to find that there are deadly creatures occupying their old worlds and those creatures are fighting to stop them from reclaiming their foothold in the galaxy.
The synopsis is intriguing and definitely leaves you wanting more. It’s a story and a game that Bungie has described as its most ambitious project to date.
What we know about the gameplay so far is that this will likely be a first-person shooter Massive Multiplayer Online (MMO) console game that will require an internet connection. Players will be able to complete the game on their own but something that makes DESTINY so ambitious is the ability to seamlessly join other people’s games and play together in this massive world.
“Pathways Out of Darkness” also eludes that players will be traveling to different worlds throughout the course of the game. It’s unknown if that means players will have control of these space crafts or if it’s just a way to travel across large distances quickly.
Described as a “living world”, DESTINY’s world will undergo constant spontaneous change that will make each time you jump into the game unique experience.
In short, this game has the potential to be something amazing and harbors the potential to change the landscape of video games forever.
There is so much risk involved with this project because it’s so ambitious but that’s what makes this game so exciting. This is Bungie’s follow-up game to the HALOvfranchise and their reputation is on the line. This project is so grand in scale that there’s a good chance it could fail, but that’s what makes it intriguing.
This game might be a great glimpse into the future of gaming, we might be looking at what games may become, there’s so much unknown that it has me begging for more.
DESTINY has jumped up to the top of my list of most anticipated games and I can’t wait to see more from Bungie.
DESTINY will be available on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 platforms. No word yet on if it will be out on the next generation consoles that will follow the 360 and PS3.
