Nintendo has recently announced, via the Official Nintendo Facebook Page, that NEW SUPER MARIO BROS. 2 is heading to the Nintendo 3DS handheld system both in Japan and North America in August 2012.
The title will be traditional side-scrolling 2D, and it will feature the famous Tanooki Mario suit and Luigi! Little else has been revealed so far besides the photo above. Here is the official announcement found on the facebook site:

Nintendo fans should rejoice that their favorite Italian plumber will be returning to his 2-D roots this August on your Nintendo 3DS. I’m pretty excited and have to admit that, besides having a slow start, the 3DS sure is an amazing system for Nintendo fans.
