After a leaked teaser last week, EA has officially reveled STAR WARS BATTLEFRONT 2 for the Playstation 4, Xbox One, and PC at this year’s Star Wars Celebration on Orlando. The announcement was accompanied by a much better trailer alongside an official release date of November 17th 2017 just in time for the release of STAR WARS: THE LAST JEDI the following month.
The above trailer reveals a campaign mode that will follow protagonist Idea Versio who leads an elite Imperial unit called “Inferno Squad’ set during the time between RETURN OF THE JEDI and THE FORCE AWAKENS.
So far, playable heroes and villains set to appear include Luke Skywalker, Rey, Kylo Res, Yoda, and Darth Maul with likely many more to be announced soon. Locals confirmed so far include Yavin 4, Pos Eisley, and Starkiller Base. Again, many more will surely be announced soon.
It also appears EA and DICE will not be pursuing a traditional their “Season Pass” method to release new content. How they plan to deliver new content has not been revealed as of yet. This is good news for those that can see through this sneaky path to charge players $120 for a single game over the span of a year much like games in the CALL OF DUTY and BATTLEFIELD series. Personally, I hate the Season Pass route and find it pretty offensive. I hope they have a good (cheaper) replacement plan for new content.
Other than the game looking pretty great, my main takeaway is that it was refreshing to see EA and DICE not shy away from using prequel-era content. There are limitless opportunities to be mined from that era. Good for you EA, thank you.
BATTLEFRONT 2 releases on Playstation 4, Xbox One, and PC November 17th, 2017.
