No doubt: 2014’s reboot of the Heroes in a Half-Shell was a dumb movie, but it did end up making a ton of moolah at the box office. In the vein of Michael Bay’s other “80’s nostalgia” property (TRANSFORMERS), a sequel was all but inevitable. Enter TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES: OUT OF THE SHADOWS featuring the return of the four reptilian crime fighters, their reporter gal pal April O’Neil (Megan Fox), cameraman Vern (Will Arnett), the villainous ninja master Shredder (Brian Tee) and a few new faces. Check it out:
Again, I’ll never quite understand how this is considered “raping my childhood.” Y’all do realize that the entire TMNT franchise hinges on an unapologetically stupid idea, right? I’m a hardcore fan of all things Turtle and even I’ll admit to the inherent insanity of this premise, no matter how silly (or serious) people try to make it. This sequel looks like it will at least be more fun than the previous film with plenty of ninja, mutant and (from the looks of things) alien mayhem to entertain us for an hour and some change. It’s got Green Arrow from…uh…ARROW in it as Casey Jones. That’s kinda cool. Yeah, Tyler Perry is in it, but hopefully he’s more GONE GIRL funny and less MADEA SAVES CHRISTMAS “funny”. And even then, it can’t be as annoying as any character from the TRANSFORMERS movies.
Plus, it is so hard to be pissed or cynical about this trailer when it’s got a freaking giant mutant warthog and rhino riding down river rapids in a tank shooting at teenaged turtles! That’s a sentence I just wrote.
