oldboy-remake-brolin-lee

Alright. Here’s the thing. I can easily bitch and moan about how OLDBOY does not need a remake and how I think this whole project directed by Spike Lee (DO THE RIGHT THING) is completely unnecessary. I am a HUGE fan of the original Korean film directed by Chan-wook Park (THIRST) and even ranked it #1 on my “Top 5 Korean Films You Must See” list! But in in the end you don’t really care how much I enjoyed the original film (never read the manga) and none of that really matters because this movie is happening and we finally have our first look at the trailer.  Check out the trailer and official plot synopsis below and see for yourself.

An advertising executive is kidnapped and held hostage for 20 years in solitary confinement. When he is inexplicably released, he embarks on an obsessive mission to discover who orchestrated his punishment, only to find he is still trapped in a web of conspiracy and torment.

My only request to those interested out there is to watch the original film first before seeing this new one. Who knows, this remake may prove to be pretty good.  There is a great team on and behind the camera and it seems like it is all being treated well so I hopeful and reserving final judgement until I see the film.

Spike Lee’s remake of OLDBOY hammers its way into theatres October 25th 2013.
