Word is spreading through the Nerd-Sphere that DOCTOR’S WHO‘s 10th Doctor, David Tennant, will finally be making his introduction into the Cinematic (and streaming TV?) Marvel Universe in the upcoming Netflix original series JESSICA JONES. After last month’s announcement that Benedict Cumberbatch will be playing DOCTOR STRANGE, I’m sure Tumblr is currently a pile of goo… The interesting tidbit about all of this is who Tennant will be playing. His character’s name is Kilgrave, AKA ‘The Purple Man’ and If you’ve read the ALIAS comic book series (which is what this Netflix original mini series JESSICA JONES will be based on), you know that this character is a pretty horrible piece of living garbage. Geronimo…
What made the original Marvel comic ALIAS so groundbreaking and memorable was the tragic and realistic path walked by the main character JESSICA JONES. After gaining superpowers and joining the ranks of those all-so-familiar ‘cape wearing’ and ‘web slinging’ heroes, Jessica quickly discovered that the superhero lifestyle can be way more gruesome than advertised. Without giving too much away, lets just say that the Purple Man has the ability to hypnotized and mentally influence people and he used it to make Jessica do a lot of things against her will. Yeah, pretty gnarly.
It’s still unclear how DAREDEVIL, JESSICA JONES, IRON FIST and LUKE CAGE will all interact with each other throughout the run of their individual mini series’, but, it’s becoming very clear that Marvel is taking the casting of their Netflix properties very seriously.
