Netflix nonchalantly revealed that an animated CASTLEVANIA series is heading to their streaming service beginning in 2017. While no exact date other than 2017 was revealed, it was said that part 1 of a planned 4 part series would be arriving this year. Each “part” will be 30 minutes long.
Inspired by the classic video game series, Castlevania is a dark medieval fantasy following the last surviving member of the disgraced Belmont clan, trying to save Eastern Europe from extinction at the hand of Vlad Dracula Tepe himself. The animated series is from Frederator Studios, a Wow! Unlimited Media company, written by best-selling author and comic book icon Warren Ellis and executive produced by Warren Ellis, Kevin Kolde, Fred Seibert and Adi Shankar.
Sounds like this will be an adaptation of sorts of the original Konami games on the NES. Sounds a lot like CASTLEVANIA III: DRACULA’S CURSE if you ask me. If so, that’s pretty fucking epic! Seeing the Belmont clan in an animated series on Netflix is most welcome for sure! And word on the street is that this adaptation be extremely mature with a hard-R rating. Sounds great!
Only time will tell if the video game adaptation curse will be around forever. I have a good feeling about this project, and even though not a lot of details have emerged, all signs point to this being one hell of a show!
CASTLEVANIA whips its way to Netflix sometime in 2017, stay tuned as more details emerge.
