I realize that this news may be a bit obvious, but today Disney CEO Bob Iger officially announced in a press conference that a sequel to THE AVENGERS 2 will happen. Iger comments that THE AVENGERS “shattered domestic box-office records with a $207.1 million opening weekend for a global performance of $702 million to date.” Wow! I am so glad I live in a world where a movie based off awesome comic book characters is shattering box office records by such a large margin!
Currently Marvel and Disney have a third IRON MAN film and a second THOR film scheduled for a 2013 release. A second CAPTAIN AMERICA film is slated for 2014, and even though there is no official timeline for the second AVENGERS movie, you can bet it will soon follow the CAPTAIN AMERICA sequel. I think it is safe to say that there is a high possibility of a standalone HULK movie too, and if not, you can bet your sweet green ass he will show up in one of the films above due to actor Mark Ruffalo (ZODIAC) signing a 6 picture deal! HULK really stole the show for me in THE AVENGERS as you may have been able to tell in my review for THE AVENGERS.
This all sounds great to me and this franchise is really turning into one of my favorites of all time! Anyone wanna take a stab at any new heroes and/or villains that will potentially show up in THE AVENGERS 2?
