Check out the trailer below for the Jodie Foster (THE SILENCE OF THE LAMBS, CONTACT) directed movie THE BEAVER. This film stars MEL GIBSON (LETHAL WEAPON SERIES, BRAVEHEART) as a once successful executive for a toy company who has lost sight of the importance of his family. Now suffering from depression he finds a stuffed beaver in a dumpster and uses it as his sole means of communicating (in a cockney accent nonetheless). THE BEAVER co-stars Jodie Foster who reunites with Gibson who she starred with in the movie MAVERICK back in 1994. Also co-starring is the young up-and-coming actor Anton Yelchin (STAR TREK, TERMINATOR SALVATION) who I think is one of the best newcomers in the biz today.
I am a huge fan of Mel Gibson as an actor and director. I realize the media may be getting the best of him at the moment, but that does not change the fact that he is a wonderful entertainer with some true talent. He is an acting legend because of movies like THE MAD MAX SERIES, THE LETHAL WEAPON SERIES, and BRAVEHEART. He has also directed two movies I consider flawless called BRAVEHEART and APOCALYPTO. I am excited to see him acting again and always look forward to projects he is involved in. Last year we saw him return to acting in the under appreciated film EDGE OF DARNKNESS by director Martin Campbell (CASINO ROYALE, THE GREEN LANTERN) and I recommend you check it out if you missed it in theatres. I hope Gibson continues to act and direct films more consistently. Seeing him in a dramatic role where his relies on a cockney accented beaver to communicate is something I will not miss. Check out the first trailer below to see for yourself.
THE BEAVER opens January 6th 2011.
