While I did enjoy the previous “Bourne” movies starring Matt Damon (THE DEPARTED), I don’t consider myself a huge fan of the series. That said, I am looking forward to seeing what they can do with a sequel that strays away from Damon’s character and instead focuses on a seemingly more dangerous rogue played by Jeremy Renner (THE HURT LOCKER).
THE BOURNE LEGACY is directed by Tony Gilroy (MICHAEL CLAYTON) who wrote the first three films in the franchise and tells the story of a new CIA operative who’s life is affected by the events of the first three films. While THE BOURNE LEGACY is technically a sequel that will run parallel to the original story, it can also be viewed as a fresh reboot for the series. The film has a lot of returning actors reprising their roles such as Joan Allen (THE NOTEBOOK) and Albert Finney (BIG FISH) while introducing big name newcomers Rachel Wise (THE MUMMY) and Edward Norton (THE INCREDIBLE HULK) into the mix.
THE BOURNE LEGACY has a great cast behind it and the series writer in the director’s chair leading me to believe that this will be a great addition to an already cool action film franchise.
THE BOURNE LEGACY opens August 3rd 2012.
