Comedy Legend Leslie Nielsen passed away today at the age of 84. A family statement said Nielsen passed in his sleep surrounded by friends and family in a Ft. Lauderdale Florida hospital near his home due to complications with pneumonia.
I have been a life-long fan of Nielsen’s comedy. Nielsen began his comedy career in the 1980 hit AIRPLANE! after almost 30 years of dramatic acting roles. He is likely most remembered for his role as Lt. Frank Drebin in POLICE SQUAD! and THE NAKED GUN series. His trademark ability to maintain a deadpan expression while delivering his punchlines was second to none and remains an inspiration for myself as a comedian. He had such a wonderful sense for comedic timing and I always knew I could rely on him for a laugh. Rest in peace Mr. Nielsen, you will be missed.
