Ok here’s the deal. This movie is going to get made fun of no matter what. It’s just that simple. It is a movie based on a classic board game with a seemingly ridiculous script. I admit I do not see the point in this film but I consider it my duty as a full time nerd to remain skeptical.
BATTLESHIP is directed by Peter Berg who I consider one of my all time favorite directors. He directed HANCOCK which is easily in my top 10 movies of all time and has also directed the highly under appreciated movies THE RUNDOWN and THE KINGDOM. If you have not seen any of the 3 movies mentioned above I highly recommend all of them. That said, this movie could be a colossal flop. But I remain skeptical.

Alex Hopper, a Naval officer assigned to the USS John Paul Jones; Brooklyn Decker as Sam Shane, a physical therapist and Hopper’s fiancée; Alexander Skarsgård as Hopper’s older brother, Stone, Commanding Officer of the USS Sampson; Rihanna as Petty Officer Raikes, Hopper’s crewmate and a weapons specialist on the USS John Paul Jones; and international superstar Liam Neeson as Hopper and Stone’s superior (and Sam’s father), Admiral Shane.
I dig the Michael Bay (TRANSFORMERS Series) vibe I get from this trailer and I am ALWAYS up for a good alien action flick. This movie may not be all that bad BUT I do realize that a lot of you have already made up your mind that this will be a bad movie. The simple fact that it is directed by Peter Berg and stars Liam Neeson (TAKEN) is good enough reason for me to give this one a shot.
