PAPER GIRLS, Image Comics / Art by Cliff Chiang

1.PAPER GIRLS #16 / Image Comics

Written by Brian K. Vaughan / Art by Cliff Chiang

I can’t really talk about this issue without spoiling things for those not caught up. Issue #16 is the beginning of a brand new story arc and things have made an interesting turn that will forever change this book. I’m sure you’ve read SAGA, also by Brian K. Vaughan. Do yourself a favor, and read PAPER GIRLS too. It’s pretty excellent.

DARTH VADER, Marvel Comics / Art by Giuseppe Camuncoli

2. DARTH VADER #6 / Marvel Comics

Written by Charles Soule / Art by Giuseppe Camuncoli

Damn this new ongoing DARTH VADER book is good. It’s starts soon after the events of REVENGE OF THE SITH following our favorite Dark Lord of the Sith. We get a great look at Vader and Palpatine as they begin to rule the galaxy together. I’m surprised by how many huge character defining moments are within, and it’s great seeing Palpatine during this era. The ties to Disney’s STAR WARS REBELS are pretty cool too.

BATMAN WHITE KNIGHT, DC Comics / Art by Sean Murphy

3. BATMAN WHITE KNIGHT #1 / DC Comics

Written by Sean Murphy / Art by Sean Murphy

Just when I thought I couldn’t get enough Batman in my diet, this new book from writer/artist Sean Murphy comes along. And it’s fantastic. It doesn’t take place in the current “DC Rebirth” timeline, and that’s just fine. Not being tied to any rules lets Murphy run free and create whatever he wants. And he sure is doing whatever the hell he wants. Joker as the hero? This is just the beginning of what will surely be one epic 8-part mini-series.

X-MEN BLUE, Marvel Comics / Art by Arthur Adams & Peter Steigerwald

4. X-MEN BLUE #13 / Marvel Comics

Written by Cullen Bunn / Art by Jorge Molina

It feels great to be reading quality X-Men comics again. Sure, the X-books aren’t exactly where I want them to be, but X-MEN BLUE and X-MEN GOLD have been damn fun lately. This issue is the second issue in a 6-part mini-series event called “Mojo Worldwide”. The BLUE and GOLD teams are both involved here as Mojo messes with them all. It feel nostalgic, the roster is stellar, and the action is fun. And did I mention Longshot!?

POE DAMERON, Marvel Comics / Art by Phil Noto

5. POE DAMERON #20 / Marvel Comics

Written by Charles Soule / Art by Angel Unzueta

I have a feeling the ongoing POE DAMERON book is coming to an end soon. The book takes place before the events of THE FORCE AWAKENS as General Leia tasks Poe to finds Lor San Tekka who may know the whereabouts of Luke Skywalker. You know, that mysterious old dude from the beginning of AWAKENS. Lor finally shows up in this issue and it’s serving as a fun as hell prequel to AWAKENS. A must-read for STAR WARS fans.
