The mutant berserker with the adamantium claws returns to the silver screen this summer, and a brand-spanking new trailer has arrived to give us a glimpse of what’s in store for us X-fans in THE WOLVERINE. Hugh Jackman (LES MISERABLES) returns to the iconic role of Logan/Wolverine in a film directed by James Mangold (WALK THE LINE) and based off of the 1982 WOLVERINE limited comic book series by Chris Claremont and Frank Miller. You can check out the exclusive trailer released on iTunes or you can watch the far superior (at least in my opinion) international trailer linked below the plot synopsis:
Based on the celebrated comic book arc, this epic action-adventure takes Wolverine, the most iconic character of the X-Men universe, to modern-day Japan. Out of his depth in an unknown world, he will face a host of unexpected and deadly opponents in a life-or-death battle that will leave him forever changed. Vulnerable for the first time and pushed to his physical and emotional limits, he confronts not only lethal samurai steel but also his inner struggle against his own immortality.
Wow, it looks like the stakes have been raised for poor ol’ Wolvie in this installment! The Silver Samurai, ninja assassins, femme fatales, bullet train fights, freaky lab experiments (he hates those!), the loss of his infamous healing factor and (blink and you’ll miss it) a cameo from another X-Man who was taken down a tragic path. How this story ties-in to the original trilogy of X-MEN films and whether or not there is a connection to next summer’s X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST remains to be seen. But this trailer proves that, malfunctioning powers or not, Wolverine is still the best at what he does (and remember, what he does ain’t pretty). I, for one, will definitely be checking out Logan’s continuing adventures when THE WOLVERINE hits theaters July 26, 2013!
