The first trailer for THE HOBBIT: THE DESOLATION OF SMAUG has hit the net and it will certainly whet the appetites of fans. For the first time we get to see Bard the Bowman, played by Luke Evans (THE RAVEN), Tauriel, played by Evangeline Lilly (TV’s LOST), and Smaug (just his head), voiced by Benedict Cumberbatch (STAR TREK: INTO DARKNESS). We also get to see Legolas, played by Orlando Bloom (PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN TRILOGY) for the first time since THE LORD OF THE RINGS. The trailer also gives us a peak at some of the more well known scenes from the novel, so keep an eye out for the spiders den, the river barrels, and Laketown as you watch the trailer.

I hate to admit it, but after watching the trailer I am pretty excited for this movie. While I am sure I will still have issues with the liberties and changes made in the adaptation, I think that this will be an incredibly fun movie. From what the trailer shows, some of the most intense and exciting parts of the book will be covered in this film and, as a die hard Tolkien fan, it will be fun to see them on the big screen.

THE HOBBIT: THE DESOLATION OF SMAUG opens everywhere December 13th 2013.
