The rebooted Spider-Man saga is set to return this summer in a big way as Marvel and Sony Pictures have released the first trailer for THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 2! Andrew Garfield returns as Peter Parker/Spider-Man along with Emma Stone (GANGSTER SQUAD) as love interest Gwen Stacy and Sally Field (LINCOLN) as doting Aunt May. Joining them is Dane DeHaan (THE PLACE BEYOND THE PINES) as Peter’s childhood friend Harry Osborn, Chris Cooper (THE TOWN) as his father Norman Osborn, Paul Giamatti (12 YEARS A SLAVE) as the rampaging bad guy known as the Rhino and Jamie Foxx (DJANGO UNCHAINED) as the villainous Electro! Looks like Spidey will have his hands full as it appears he’ll be tangling with not just one or two, but three supervillains! The redesigned costume looks pretty good in action and though some of the glimpses of the fight sequences come off as a little “video game”-y to me, they are still very impressive visually and well-suited for a character as fast and as agile as Spider-Man. And even though I’ll always have a special place in my heart for Sam Raimi’s original Spider-trilogy, I’m really kinda digging the “conspiracy” aspect they have included regarding Oscorp and Peter’s past. Also, anyone else notice a certain set of robotic arms and wings in the background? Makes a Spidey fan like me wonder if director Marc Webb and Sony have something “sinister” planned for our favorite wall crawler…
