TMNT out of the shadows

It’s an interesting time to be a TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES fan.  The IDW comic book series has reinterpreted the TMNT mythos for new readers, the new animated series on Nickelodeon is a very entertaining watch, Michael Bay’s now-infamous reboot has started filming and we have been given a glimpse of the Green Machine’s latest video game endeavor titled TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES: OUT OF THE SHADOWS!

The game is developed by Red Fly and distributed by Activision.  It is set to be a downloadable release on XBox Live Arcade, Playstation Network and Steam and will be a four-player online co-op brawler in which players will be able to complete either elaborate individual-based combos or work in tandem with the other three Turtles for devastating group attacks.  Check out the short “announcement” trailer below:

So far, I have to say that the game looks pretty impressive.  As a kid, I was a big fan of the TMNT arcade game (without a doubt, the best part about being invited to friend’s birthday parties at Chuck E. Cheese’s) and just couldn’t get enough of the button-mashing action when I got Konami’s TMNT IV:TURTLES IN TIME for my Super Nintendo.  OUT OF THE SHADOWS looks to be just as entertaining as those previous games with the promise of slick combat animations, opportunities for chained combos and specific skilled attacks for each Turtle.  Plus, even though the game seems to be taking influence from the new Nickelodeon series, I am really digging the “more realistic” look of the Turtles.  If Bay can capture a look like this in the upcoming movie, then he may just quell some of my remaining skepticism…
