1995’s JUDGE DREDD starring Sylvester Stallone (THE EXPENDABLES) is getting the remake treatment just like everything else in Hollywood. The new film directed by Peter Travis (VANTAGE POINT) is simply titled DREDD  and stars Karl Urban (STAR TREK) who must match the awesome cheesiness and badassness that Stallone perfected in his version. Check out the full synopsis and trailer below:

Dredd takes place on a fictional Earth created as a result of the Atomic Wars. Survivors of this period are living in Mega-Cities, which protects its citizens from the Cursed Earth, a radioactive desert environment populated by mutants. The main story takes place in Mega-City One, where the police who are now called judges have the power to use police brutality to some extent to fight extreme murders. One man, Judge Dredd (Karl Urban), a senior law enforcement officer, teams up with a cadet called Judge Anderson (Olivia Thirlby) to track down a terrorist organization lead by Ma-Ma (Lena Headey), who is responsible for selling a reality-altering drug called Slo-Mo.

I have to admit that I am really digging the style of this film. It has echoes of that classic 90’s feels a lot of us action fans love. You have to be kidding yourself if you are expecting anything other than a 90’s inspired action flick that has equal moments of cheesiness and badassery. I really enjoy how Urban is owning up to this part and having fun as you can tell by his Christian Bale-styled Batman voice. I am also looking forward to some intense slo-mo infused action sequences that I will never tire of. Cool sci-fi stuff here. I’m in!
