Phase 2 of Marvel Studios’ Cinematic Universe continues on the big screen in only a few weeks with THOR: THE DARK WORLD, and as much fun as I’m sure the God of Thunder’s latest adventure will be, we can already be looking ahead to high-octane superhero action in April with this first trailer for CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE WINTER SOLDIER! Check out the star-spangled bad-assery below:

After the cataclysmic events in New York with The Avengers, Marvel’s CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE WINTER SOLDIER finds Steve Rogers, aka Captain America, living quietly in Washington, D.C. and trying to adjust to the modern world. But when a S.H.I.E.L.D. colleague comes under attack, Steve becomes embroiled in a web of intrigue that threatens to put the world at risk. Joining forces with the Black Widow, Captain America struggles to expose the ever-widening conspiracy while fighting off professional assassins sent to silence him at every turn. When the full scope of the villainous plot is revealed, Captain America and the Black Widow enlist the help of a new ally, the Falcon. However, they soon find themselves up against an unexpected and formidable enemy—the Winter Soldier.
I can safely say that I am now thoroughly jazzed for this flick! The action looks pretty spectacular and the plot so far looks pretty intriguing as it appears that S.H.I.E.L.D. is being attacked head-on or from within. Chris Evans (THE ICEMAN) looks as awesome as ever as Cap and all traces of his previous superhero life as the Human Torch in Tim Story’s FANTASTIC FOUR films I’d say have been eclipsed by his portrayal of the legendary super soldier. Scarlett Johansson (DON JON) is still true to form as the sultry-yet-lethal Black Widow, and I’m glad we’re going to be seeing her partner-up more with Steve Rogers in this film. Speaking of partners, Anthony Mackie (PAIN & GAIN) as the Falcon looks pretty good so far and I think his revised militaristic look fits in well with the whole action/espionage-angle involving S.H.I.E.L.D. (wonder if events from this film will bleed over into the AGENTS series on television?). And who wouldn’t be looking forward to a meeting of screen legends like Samuel L. Jackson (ROBOCOP) as S.H.I.E.L.D. director Nick Fury and Robert Redford (THE COMPANY YOU KEEP) as S.H.I.E.L.D. senior leader Alexander Pierce?
As for the Winter Soldier himself, I wish I could say more about him other than it looks like he will give Cap & Company a good run for their money. Who is he? Where does he come from? Buck up, kiddies! All will be revealed…unless you’ve been reading Cap stories for the past few years, in which case, all has been revealed!
As I’ve stated before, there is plenty to be excited about with Marvel movies. And though we’ll have plenty of Asgardian awesomeness in just a few days, it’s nice to know that Cap going to follow-up with a (hopefully) strong sequel in Spring.
CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE WINTER SOLDIER hits theaters April 4, 2014!
