RISE OF THE PLANET OF THE APES was one of this summer’s most welcome surprises and will surely make my top 10 movies of 2011. You can check out my official review right HERE.

While APES works as a great stand-alone film, a sequel and possibly a trilogy is most welcome. The original did gross upwards of $450M worldwide so a sequel was inevitable. Today comes word that Andy Serkis (THE LORD OF THE RINGS Series, KING KONG) will be reprising his role as the motion capture actor for Caesar. If there is one person from the original I would like to see come back, it’s most definitely Serkis. Caesar truly is one of the most amazing CG character in movie history and it could not be done so wonderfully without Serkis and his vast experience as a motion capture actor.

No word yet on if other stars such as James Franco (PINEAPPLE EXPRESS) will be returning. The sequel plans to be centered around the first group of apes who create their own society while the human-run world around them crumbles. Be sure to check back for more official news as it becomes available.

RISE OF THE PLANET OF THE APES hits DVD and Blu-Ray December 13th 2011.
