Thanks to the X-Men Movies Facebook Fan Page we get our first official look at X-MEN: FIRST CLASS from director Matthew Vaughn (KICK-ASS, LAYER CAKE).

I am a lifelong fan of the X-Men (mainly CYCLOPS) and have been anticipating this trailer for a long time. I should not be as excited for this film as I am since the X-Men film re-imaginings have been less than amazing as a whole AND my favorite mutant CYCLOPS has not been treated well. I absolutely loved the first X-MEN movie and thought it captured the spirit of the X-Men and added something fresh and interesting. X2: X-MEN UNITED continued that trend and gave us a more realized X-Men universe for us to enjoy (and the jaw-dropping Nightcrawler sequence). Then X3: THE LAST STAND happened and the momentum was lost (along with CYCLOPS). The best way to describe X3 is “entertaining bullshit”. While I enjoyed it as an action fan, I loathed it as an X-MEN fan. But I have to admit X3 looks like fucking CITIZEN CANE compared to X-MEN ORIGINS: WOLVERINE. I lost all hope of returning to the glory of the first X-MEN and X2 after watching that stinker of a movie. At least give a movie that focuses on Wolverine an R rating. Yeesh.

Why do I keep coming back to the X-Men film franchise you ask? Why do I still get excited every time a new X movie comes out? Simple really. I lower my expectations, try my hardest not to constantly compare these movies to the comics, and realize this is just a re-imagining of something great and NOT a replacement. If you want the stories in the comics READ THE COMICS! They are still there people and these movies do not ruin those at all. So instead of bitching and moaning about not having THIS or THAT, I choose to sit back, relax and enjoy mutants kicking ass in the movie theatre! Even if the films don’t do what I want they are still good fun and the X-Universe is fascinating enough for me to keep wanting more.

This latest entry, while not in line with the comics origins, looks pretty fantastic and is being directed by one of my favorite new directors today. I trust he will make an awesome movie and finally give audiences something to cheer for again. I love that we will see The Beast’s transformation, Havok is going to  be my Cyclops stand-in (in the comics he is his younger brother), and the relationship and chemistry between Professor X and Magneto looks to be spot on. I’m officially excited for this one folks! Check out the trailer below and sound off in the comments below with your opinions.
