I once read an interview with Hugh Jackman where he stated that he doesn’t want anyone else to play Wolverine. It was so long ago and he was still rising to fame so I naturally didn’t believe him. I thought he may outgrow the character or desire a bigger and bigger paycheck. Well, I was wrong because Jackman sure has stuck in there and remains the only actor to be involved with all 5 X-MEN films thus far with two more on the horizon.

The next X-MEN universe film to hit theaters will be the James Mangold (KNIGHT AND DAY) directed film THE WOLVERINE due out this summer. Above you will see a cool new poster for the film that shows our hero kneeling above the neon lights of Tokyo City. Pretty cool stuff. You can also head over the the film’s official site HERE to see the “motion-poster” complete with audio! It’s actually kind of neat and worth a look.

In related news, X-MEN and X2: X-MEN UNITED director Bryan Singer has confirmed via his Twitter page that Jackman has officially signed on to be a part of the X-MEN: FIRST CLASS sequel titled X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST in which Singer will also direct. This is hot off the heels of the news that Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellen will be returning for their roles as Professor X and Magneto. Here is the official Tweet confirming Jackman’s involvement:

“I would officially like to welcome @RealHughJackman to the cast of #Xmen Days of Future Past. Very excited! More to come…”

While it is still unclear what the extent of Jackman’s role will be, it is a safe bet that it will be significantly bigger than what we saw in FIRST CLASS. Any self respecting comic nerd out there knows that Wolverine was a pretty significant character in the comic book arc for DAYS OF FUTURE PAST and it will be interesting to see how true to the original source material this film will be. It is also worth noting that Singer says “More to come” at the end of his post yet again suggesting there may be other original X-Men cast members joining the team. Fingers crossed for James Marsden as Cyclops!

THE WOLVERINE slashes into theaters July 26th 2013

X-MEN: DAY OF FUTURE PAST is set for a July 18th 2014 release.
