I love Superman. I grew up watching and re-watching the Christopher Reeve films. I’m on a regular diet of Superman comic books. I watched each and every episode of SMALLVILLE no matter how bad it got. I enjoy Superman’s animated adventures in all shapes and forms. I’m one of the few who actually adored SUPERMAN RETURNS and MAN OF STEEL and I kinda liked JUSTICE LEAGUE, mainly because of Superman’s arc. Oh, and I watch SUPERGIRL on The CW and get all giddy whenever Supes makes an appearance. So why am I not excited about SyFy’s new series KRYPTON?
I don’t really have anything against a hardcore science fiction show starring the elder members of the house of El. “ELder”!? Ok, that was stupid, moving on. I think the issue here is just an overwhelming sense of superhero fatigue. Some days I feel like I eat, sleep, and dream about superheroes. And a ton of it is Superman related. I’m even wearing a superman pajammy shirt as I write this. The dude is everywhere! 10 years ago I woulda been all over this show! Come to think of it, I feel like studios have been teasing this show for 10 years? My point is, there’s just too much superhero shit out there, too much Superman universe shit out there, and I’m getting a little tired.
So will I ever watch KRYPTON? Maybe, I’m not 100% sure. I know I won’t be watching it as it airs. I think in this day and age, a show really has to get some truly epic buzz to get me interested. Or be something wonderfully different like FX’s LEGION. As it stands, keeping up with superhero comics, tv shows, movies, and video games is exhausting sometimes.
ARROW, THE FLASH, LEGENDS OF TOMORROW, SUPERGIRL, BLACK LIGHTNING, AGENTS OF SHIELD, GOTHAM, LEGION, THE GIFTED, INHUMANS, DAREDEVIL, JESSCA JONES, LUKE CAGE, IRON FIST, THE DEFENDERS, THE PUNISHER, and RUNAWAYS is just too damn much. Stack on a KRYPTON and I think the tower falls.
It’s not your fault KRYPTON. It’s me, not you. Maybe we can just be friends.
If you had to pick just one Superhero show to watch that’s currently running, what would it be? I think I’d choose DAREDEVIL.
