PAN / Warner Bros.

PAN is yet another re-imagining of the classic tale of Peter Pan. Some of my favorites include Disney’s 1953 classic animated film, 1991’s HOOK, and the highly underrated PETER PAN that came out in 2003. Check all of those out if you haven’t yet, they are all wonderful films and vastly different from one another. Which brings us to PAN, yet another very different take on the same story. Check out the official synopsis from Warner Bros. below along with the official trailer.

Offering a new take on the origin of the classic characters created by J.M. Barrie, the action adventure follows the story of an orphan who is spirited away to the magical Neverland. There, he finds both fun and dangers, and ultimately discovers his destiny—to become the hero who will be forever known as Peter Pan.

You know, I can imagine a lot of people rolling their eyes at this one in a “here we go again” kind of way, but I think this looks pretty amazing. This time around we delve into the history of these famous characters and see how they all ended up where we recognize them the most in the classic tales. Not to mention that PAN is directed by Joe Wright who is responsible for directing HANNA which is hands down one of my favorite films of all time. So that alone gives me a lot of hope here. Also, it appears Hugh Jackman ( THE WOLVERINE) as Black Beard and Garrett Hedlund (TRON LEGACY) as Hook are giving some truly inspired and amazing performances. Basically it all looks like good fun with a classic twist on an old favorite.

PAN swoops into theaters on October 9th 2015
