While I really miss Bryan Singer (X-MEN, X2: X-MEN UNITED) behind the director’s chair for the X-Men films, I always look forward to his films. Since X-MEN and X2 we have seen the awesome SUPERMAN RETURNS and VALKYRIE. Next up is a passion project for Singer called JACK THE GIANT KILLER. This is not the fairy tale you grew up with and is a much more mature and stylized version of the familiar story. Check out this plot synopsis to get and idea of where this one is heading.

“Jack the Giant Killer” tells the story of an ancient war that is reignited when a young farmhand unwittingly opens a gateway between our world and a fearsome race of giants. Unleashed on the Earth for the first time in centuries, the giants strive to reclaim the land they once lost, forcing the young man, Jack, into the battle of his life to stop them. Fighting for a kingdom, its people, and the love of a brave princess, he comes face to face with the unstoppable warriors he thought only existed in legend–and gets the chance to become a legend himself.

While I admit that this idea sounds kind of dumb on paper, I really like the style and direction this new trailer takes us. I also trust Singer will do a great job behind the director’s chair as always. The film also stars Nicholas Hoult who I have been a fan of since the British drama SKINS and more recently, X-MEN FIRST CLASS. Check out the trailer below and let us know what you think in the comments section.

JACK THE GIANT KILLER opens June 15th 2012.
