It seems like just yesterday I was still stewing about how Cyclops, Cable, and Mega Man were excluded from MARVEL VS. CAPCOM 3. And by “yesterday” I mean everyday since the game was announced. That was my MARVEL VS. CAPCOM 2 dream-team back on the Sega Dreamcast. The game just kind of feels hollow without them…

Well, at the recent Playstation Experience 2016, Capcom officially announced a sequel called MARVEL VS. CAPCOM INFINITE. Why it’s not just called MARVEL VS. CAPCOM 4 I’ll never know. Maybe it just doesn’t sound cool. And according to rumors, the game may as well be called MARVEL VS. CAPCOM: THIS GAME SUCKS WITHOUT X-MEN. Yes, the winds of the rumor mill are whispering that INFINITE will likely not be including many, if any, of our favorite mutant characters such as the aforementioned Cyclops and Cable along with the likes of Wolverine, Magneto, Storm, and oh so many more. Shit.

While nothing is official yet, and I predict Old Man Logan may show up, things don’t look too good. It’s just a little hard to get excited about this game without them if you can’t tell by now…

In any case, the game is coming and will at least feature pretty much everyone from Marvel’s current slate of films including The Avengers, Spider-Man, Guardians of the Galaxy, and Doctor  Strange to name a few. So far we’ve just seen Ryu, Mega Man, Iron Man, Captain Marvel, Captain America, and Morrigan with tons more surely on the way. And it’s now 2 on 2 instead of 3 on 3? Why mess with a good formula? Ahh!

Sigh, looks like I’ll be scouring the web for months just hoping a few X-Men make the cut. Check out the first gameplay trailer below as well.

MARVEL VS. CAPCOM INFINITE should arrive sometime in 2017
