fez 2

E3 2013 was chalk full of new and exciting video game news and reveals, it’s hard to think that at the very end, there could be one more surprise game announcement.

Polytron unveiled a short teaser trailer during the Horizon Conference, an independent game conference held at E3, that revealed a sequel to the critically acclaimed FEZ is in development. The sequel is titled FEZ II.

The 48 second teaser trailer doesn’t reveal much, it’s mostly just slim rectangle that offers a small glimpse of gameplay footage set to FEZ’s iconic soundtrack,  but it’s exciting that a new FEZ game is in the works.

Check out the FEZ II teaser trailer below. The trailer can also be found on the Polytron website.

A release date hasn’t been given for FEZ II, which may scare some because of  the infamous relationship the original FEZ had with missing intended release dates, but hopefully that won’t be the case this time around. There’s also no word on whether or not this will becoming to next-generation consoles or PC — I think it’s safe to assume it will be though.

There are many unknowns about this project but it’s exciting to know that there will be a sequel to FEZ, which was one of the best platform genre games to come out in recent memory. With its unique stylization and amazing soundtrack, I’m already excited to dive back into the FEZ universe and explore the wonderful world that Phil Fish, creator of FEZ, and Polytron created and see what they add to it with FEZ II.
