E3 2017: Microsoft Conference Review and Impressions

Much like EA, Microsoft, and Bethesda’s conferences so far, Sony had a good but not great showcase. There’s no denying that Sony has some amazing games coming out in 2017 and beyond, but I definitely feel as if I’ve seen most of these games already. It reminded me a lot of what we saw last year.

Things kicked off strong with a meaty look at UNCHARTED: THE LOST LEGACY releasing later this year on August 22nd. There is no doubt in my mind that this game will rock. The gameplay on display here was solid.

We then get a look at HORIZON: ZERO DAWN – THE FROZEN WILDS which is a lengthy DLC add-on that will be arriving before year’s end. And we see more of Sony’s zombie-filed offering DAYS GONE which once again impresses. No official release date has been given but it is possible we will see it this holiday season. The gameplay here looked great. Kind of like THE LAST OF US but with more traditional zombies.

Capcom’s MONSTER HUNTER WORLDS due in early 2018 looks very impressive. I have yet to dive into this franchise, but this tease absolutely has me considering things. Anything with creatures even remotely like dinosaurs is pretty damn cool in my book.

And then a surprisingly weird thing happened. Sony unveiled a remake of SHADOW OF THE COLOSSUS. Wahaaaaaaa? Did anyone ask for this? Don’t get me wrong, I adore the original and the HD remake….but yet another, more polished remake? Why not a sequel? I dunno, cool I guess, but weird.

Then we see MARVEL VS CAPCOM: INFINITE but I really don’t care until some damn X-Men show up. No Cyclops? No Cable? No thank you! Releases September 9th, 2017.

CALL OF DUTY: WWII got a cool trailer and a firm release date of November 3rd, 2017. I have FPS overload right now so I think I’m skipping this one.

The spotlight was then put on PLAYSTATION VR. I still have not adopted this new way to play, but admit the games look fun. We saw SKYRIM, STAR CHILD, THE IMPATIENT, a weird FF15 fishing sim called MOSTER OF THE DEEP, BRAVO TEAM, and MOSS. Like I said, these look cool, but there is no one game selling me at the moment. Still waiting.

Next we revisit GOD OF WAR scheduled for early 2018, and DETROIT: BECOME HUMAN which has no set date just yet but looks far along. Both games look rock solid and I’ll definitely be getting both. GOD OF WAR looks absolutely epic.

DESTINY 2 rounds out the show releasing on September 6th, 2017 with loads of PS4 exclusive content much like the original.

And finally, just when it looked liked all was announced and done, we got a stunning look at Insomniac’s upcoming SPIDER-MAN coming in 2018. We were treated to a huge gameplay segment and it all just looked perfect. Some would say amazing? Spectacular? You get my point.

Stay tuned, we have Ubisoft and Nintendo showcase reviews coming up next!
