ARROW Season 5 Premiere Review

Breath a sigh of relief. It was dope. Straight to the dome…Dee Ohh Pee Eeeeeeeeeeeeeee.(with falsetto) DOPE. For real, ARROW Season 5 Premiere is like 419 lungs worth of breath of fresh air. In so far that it’s taking from the Season 1 playbook, while also serving as a ‘soft reboot’ at the same time. It was a smart play all around. Once again, I am no longer ashamed of being an “ArrowHead” (what fans of ARROW call themselves). Let’s play doctor and dissect. As expected, it’s now a couple months after all the ‘stupid’ events of Season 4 (no,...

GOTHAM Season 3, First Three Episodes Review And So Much More!

Warning: hella spoilers. obviously. This is a Season Premiere, first three episode bundle review. Normally, we just get talk about the Season Premiere, buuuuuut: 1.) We’re already a couple episodes in. 2.) Frankly, with GOTHAM…a show that throws it all at you wildly…one almost needs 3 episodes to put it in any sort of perspective. So, I was pretty high on GOTHAM after Season 2. Ask anyone. I could slide GOTHAM into just about any conversation. I was a hit at parties. Point being, I was stoked as hell on the fresh season. All the half-human experiments of Dr. Hugo...

ARROW Season 4 Review

Somewhere out there, on one of the many Earths, there is a version of Arrow Season 4 that is like a brisk early morning swim in a Red Bull lake, after partying all night with Jim Belusi, Chris Farley, and Sam Kinison (And yes, I do mean the zombie/ghost version of these hilarious gentlemen…as the dead party harder). Unfortunately, that Earth is not this one. Not that it was a particularly bad season, it just didn’t stop your heart and then fill it with delicious candies. Which is especially frustrating, because all the potential was there for a board-breaking slam-dunk....

THE VENTURE BROTHERS Season 6 premiere Review

To quote Decepticon figurehead Megatron from the movie TRANSFORMERS: THE MOVIE, “I would have waited an eternity for this.” It’s been a year since the last VENTURE special ‘All This and Gargantua 2’, and I can’t rightly recall how long it’s been since since Season 5. Not that I have been sweating it, there’s lots and lots of other stuff to “just watch” on TV. Because THE VENTURE BROTHERS is not what I would refer to as television, but rather an animated televised experience. Season 6 picks up right where ‘Gargantua 2’ left off…or more specifically where the 3...

THE HATEFUL EIGHT Movie Review

Let’s get this out of the way right now. There are two kinds of people in this world. People that like Tarantino movies, and those who don’t. He’s what you might call a ‘polarizing’ director. He’s trashy, violent to the point of comedic, and is absolutely bananas on using the N word. Plus, if you’ve ever seen him in any interview, he acts so coked-up and whiskey frantic that it will make you want to Gorilla Glue him to a wooden chair and cut off his fucking ears (Maybe that’s just me). However, despite all that, I’m in that...

Another ARROW Season 4 Premiere Review Because We Can Dammit!

WARNING: ARROW and TWIN PEAKS spoilers aplenty…seriously. Whoa. What exactly happened Season 3? I drank a bunch, and it was a long summer… so I can’t quite seem to remember. I do recall it being buckwild. Ending with Meryln (that fuggin’ magician) winding up being Ras al Ghul, and Oliver quitting his day job and running off with the secretary. I think I had some mixed feelings about the whole thing… I stopped sweating it. But, that begs the question, where we at with four? Short answer. Someplace good. 10/10 Long answer. I mean, if you are cool with...

The CW’s ARROW Season 3 Review

ARROW season 3 It’s tough being an original. Perhaps what I mean to say, it’s tough being an innovator. ARROW Season 3 had some mighty big ambitions. They made some big plays, but didn’t always get the returns. So how did my least favorite season of my favorite show ever live up? Pretty well, actually. Of course, after the dizzying, continuous Amyl Nitrite capsule high which was Slade Wilson and Season 2, Season 3 almost seems bound to be a let down. Not that Team ARROW didn’t swing for the fences. It’s like 24 tons of super-justice story-line gets...

The CW’s ARROW Season 3 premiere Review

Damn, I love this show. They just get right back to it, don’t they. Why, I didn’t even get a chance to catch by breath before, “Oh hey, there’s Roy in full costume. Sweet!!!” And Ollie (the Arrow) runs off nabbing a baddie with a…I dunno…a spider-web arrow (Cause that’s what you get for going down that web of crime). It’s still the over-the-top, action/adventure comic-book show I’ve been waiting my entire life for. Season two ended with rouge Frankensteins running around and Deathstroke getting put in the super pokey. Season three begins with our hero’s taking care of business,...

THE EQUALIZER Movie Review

Ah, THE EQUALIZER. Now unless you are over thirty, you probably have no idea what a Equalizer is. THE EQUALIZER was a show in the mid-late 80’s about a retired british intelligence agent (Edward Woodward) who solves A-Team types of problems single handedly. It had this totally sweet intro. Completely bat-shit, bad-ass with smoke, girls getting chased, lasers, and awesome cars. It got you completely pumped for what was pretty standard 80’s, Saturday night, action-TV fair. It’s why someone would want to draw for this article (above), and why the drawing for this article is so rad!!! Actually, compared to...

CW’s ARROW Season 2 Review

Ya know, I thought I loved Season One…but…but, it was as if Samuel Jackson broke into my apt., turned me upside down, paddled my ass stupid, and whispered in my ear,”hold on to your butt.” As we then made Newman’s microwave popcorn, smoked some grass cigarettes, and together, hand in hand…we watched Season Two. The third eye is now open. Brothers and sisters, lemme tell you something; CW’s ARROW is, without question, the comic book action adventure show that I’ve been waiting for my entire life. Hallelujah!!! I mean, of course it is!!! SPOILER ALERT! It’s a season that begins with a bang, and ends with the unthinkable. Literally! It begins with the Major of Starling City getting murdered by machine-gun wielding ‘vigilantes’, and ends with 40 thieves turned rouge Frankenstein snapping hella necks. Leveling the city with only with their fists. So cool. ARROW SEASON 2 Premiere Episode Review (With all sorts of hot The Flash, Suicide Squad, Black Canary, and straight-up, out-freakin-ragous comicy action-jackson, stuffed up it’s creamy middle.) For the uninitiated, Season One of CW’s ARROW ends with the death of Oliver Queen’s best friend Tommy (Oliver Queen being, ‘The Arrow”, for the really uninitiated), and large parts of Starling City being destroyed by an earthquake-inducing device. Season Two continues on with these ideas…with a vengeance! The death of Tommy gives Oliver reason to reconsider all the willy-nilly...

Field Trip: Big Wow ComicFest 2014

Despite a few minor hiccups (Mostly fart and pratfall related), this Old Timer would say that BigWow Comicfest 2014 was a rousing high-five of a success. Big Wow had many of the things I look for in a convention. Namely comics. Unless it’s the weird shit, I don’t go too deep into the whole collectible thing like I used to. I am usually just getting down and dirty with comics. Cheap, cheap comics. With knees on the concrete. Hovering hungover over longboxes, fingering box after box. Digging deep, digging my kicks, digging on the comics. Like, I said. My...

ALL-NEW GHOST RIDER #1 Comic Book Review

Maybe yer like me. An old man. If so, the words ‘All-New’ in front of anything will scare you more than Ebenezer Laughton with a fleshlight under his chin (He’d be Marvel’s Scarecrow). However, you’d be forgetting that about every 20 years or so…America is just ready. Tired of justice, it’s ready for vengeance. It’s ready to be penitent. It’s ready for the Ghost Rider. Setting the streets on fire, and speaking the truth. “America, America is killing it’s youth.” It seems as if that time is again at hand. Marvels ALL-NEW GHOST RIDER follows (you guessed it) an...

BATES MOTEL Season 1 Review

Hey! Have you ever wondered what was the chain of events that led a mild mannered Norman Bates into being a masturbating murdering pervert? Yeah, me neither. And yet, here we are. Fortunately, what A&E has given us in BATES MOTEL is actually a ‘re-envisioning’. A set in the modern day/smart phone wielding Norman Bates boy, who is just starting his path to being a troubled taxiderming man. It’s a pretty cool work around. It’s just faithful enough that people can argue that it really will lead to Norman growing up, owning the hotel, and killing Anne Heche. While,...

MUPPETS MOST WANTED Movie Review

Maybe I’m not the best cat to review this picture. Like many adults, I have a special love for the Muppets that will probably prevent me from being unbiased. Cemented the Christmas I was 10, and got a Kermit the Frog wrist watch. A nice one, with a green leather band. Not a crummy digital job. I felt so adult. On my little wrist was Kermit and TIME. The world was my oyster. And that was the thing about The Muppets for me back when I was a kid. It made me feel a little more grown up. Even...

Could ‘Blue Devil’ Appear in ARROW Season 3!?

Could the DC comic book character Blue Devil appear in ARROW sometime soon!? Or maybe in THE FLASH Season 1!? Or something!? Look at this screen grab from the latest episode of ARROW, “Time of Death”. Check it out, yo. It’s for the ‘Blue Devil’ movie coming out ‘this summer’. Now, I remembered the character, but I still had to look his origin up… Blue Devil is Daniel Patrick Cassidy. A special effects wizard and stuntman hired to play the character ‘Blue Devil’ in the movie (again, see picture)…but, then builds a costume/exo-skeleton with a trident with special effects...

ARROW Season 2 Premiere Review

WARNING: Spoliers abound! If you have yet to see any of ARROW yet, get caught up and come on back! Finally, the long, achingly beautiful, sun-drenched summer has come to an end. With it’s passing comes ARROW Season 2. The season premier, titled “City of Heroes”, rockets out of the gate, like some archery metaphor that I am far too lazy to cobble. Hitting all the sweet touchstones and trademarks that made the first season so much fun. The show opens approximately five months after the earthshaking events of the season 1 finale. Oliver Queen has retreated back to...

THE X-FILES Season 10 #1 Comic Book Review

Much in the same vein as BUFFY and FIREFLY, IDW has added THE X-FILES to the roster of fan-favorite television shows that would continue its seasons in comic books. Our introduction to Season 10 picks up in the modern day. It’s been “x” amount of years after the show, and Mulder and Scully are living together under the new identities of Blake. Scully is a doctor at the local hospital. Mulder is possibly a children’s magician or a failed writer. Whatever. It’s all swell and back to normal life for these two. That is until Skinner shows up and...

SUPERMAN UNCHAINED #1 Comic Book Review

SUPERMAN UNCHAINED #1 is part of the new 52. The second 52. I’m not actually 100% what that all means. I assume it’s to draw in new readers. Get them on board and interested in the Man of Steel after the movie MAN OF STEEL. Now, I’m not really super well versed in Superman, and I have little idea what it will mean for him to be unchained. But, I figured I can totally get down with the Kyptonian. So I would be an excellent litmus test. Written by Scott Snyder (AMERICAN VAMPIRE) and art chores by mid-nineties team...

In Defense Of: The CW’s ARROW

Call me crazy, but it is my personal opinion that without a doubt, the greatest television show, in all of recorded history is.. (no, it’s not M.A.S.H. or even After M.A.S.H.) …but the CW’s ARROW! O.K., so I’m obviously talking in hyperbole. I was inspired after having looked up some of the intense internet reviews on ARROW. It seems to be the exact polarizing discussion that ARROW seems to warrant. The online community either seems to love it or hate it. I think that’s totally slightly unfair on both accounts. I mean, I’m a grown ass man. So I...
