Movie Trailer: Ironclad

This film has seemingly come out of nowhere and looks pretty damn awesome. IRONCLAD comes from the almost unknown director Jonathan English (NAILING VIENNA, MINOTAUR) who I have never heard of before I saw this kick ass trailer. IRONCLAD tells the tale a group of men who must defend their castle against the tyrannical menace of King John in the south coast of England circa 1215. IRONCLAD stars the sword-wielding veteran James Purefoy (ROME, SOLOMON KANE) and co-stars the amazing Brian Cox (DEADWOOD, TROY) and Paul Giamatti (SHOOT EM’ UP, SIDEWAYS) as the the tyrant king. I gotta say...

Movie Review: I Am Number Four

I AM NUMBER FOUR is the latest sci-fi action movie from director D.J. Caruso (EAGLE EYE, DISTURBIA) and is produced by action veteran Michael Bay (TRANSFORMERS Series, THE ISLAND). The story is written for the screen by the sci-fi action duo of Alfred Gough and Miles Millar who you will most readily recognize for their joint work on TV’s SMALLVILLE which this film is almost immediately comparable. We have a young dashing teenager who happens to really be an alien on the run with his mentor/father figure trying to blend in while discovering all the awesome superpowers and abilities...

Movie Review: The Eagle

THE EAGLE comes to us from director Kevin Macdonald (THE LAST KING OF SCOTLAND, STATE OF PLAY) and stars Channing Tatum (G.I. JOE: THE RISE OF COBRA, A GUIDE TO RECOGNIZING YOUR SAINTS) and Jaime Bell (KING KONG, JUMPER). This film is an adaptation of the 1954 novel titled THE EAGLE OF THE NINTH written by Rosemary Sutcliff. THE EAGLE takes place in 140 AD in Roman-ruled Britain and tells the tale of the young Marcus Aquila (Tatum) as he sets off to discover the truth of his fathers defeated legion and recover the golden eagle that was lost...

Spider-Man reboot gets an official movie title AND first shot of full costume!

To celebrate Valentines Day (maybe?) Sony Pictures has decided to reveal the official movie title for the Spider-Man reboot which will be called THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN! We also get out first official look of Spidey in his new costume mask and all! This new costume maintains the classic color scheme and gives the design more of a “checkered” look compared to what we are use too. If you are a big Spider-Man nerd like myself you will also notice that Spider-Man has actual web-shooters this time around instead of the previous movies where Peter Parker naturally created his web...

X-Men: First Class movie trailer is finally here!

Thanks to the X-Men Movies Facebook Fan Page we get our first official look at X-MEN: FIRST CLASS from director Matthew Vaughn (KICK-ASS, LAYER CAKE). I am a lifelong fan of the X-Men (mainly CYCLOPS) and have been anticipating this trailer for a long time. I should not be as excited for this film as I am since the X-Men film re-imaginings have been less than amazing as a whole AND my favorite mutant CYCLOPS has not been treated well. I absolutely loved the first X-MEN movie and thought it captured the spirit of the X-Men and added something...

Movie Review: The Mechanic

THE MECHANIC comes to us from director Simon West (CON AIR, LARA CROFT: TOMB RAIDER) starring consistent bad-ass Jason Statham (THE TRANSPORTER, THE EXPENDABLES) and the always talented Ben Foster (3:10 TO YUMA, PANDORUM). THE MECHANIC is a remake of the 1972 film of the same name starring Charles Bronson (DEATH WISH SERIES, THE MAGNIFICENT SEVEN). I hesitate to confidently say THE MECHANIC is the smart man’s action movie but it comes awful close. This is not a mindless action flick but rather a decently crafted story with characters that have some depth to them as opposed to a...

Captain America Super Bowl teaser trailer!

Beavis and Butt-head return!

Rumors surfaced last Summer that BEAVIS AND BUTT-HEAD would return to MTV with full episodes having original creator (and voice talent) Mike Judge at the helm. MTV announced at a press conference today that the rumors are true and we will be seeing a return in the near future. A solid release date has not been announced yet but the confirmation said that Mike Judge will indeed be back as the main creator and voice talent! I assumed this announcement was inevitable when I saw the BEAVIS AND BUTT-HEAD cameo in JACK-ASS 3D this past summer. I have fond...

Movie Trailer: Source Code

One of my all-time favorite movies is 2009’s sci-fi masterpiece MOON directed by Duncan Jones (David Bowie’s son) and starring Sam Rockwell (MATCHSTICK MEN, IRON MAN 2). MOON was Jones’s stunning directorial debut so when I caught wind of his next directing project my nerd radar went crazy! SOURCE CODE stars Jake Gyllenhaal (DONNIE DARKO, BROKEBACK MAOUNTAIN) as a soldier in the future who has the ability to enter the consciousness of an unknown man during the last 8 minutes of his life in order to figure out how a train bombing happened. The film co-stars Vera  Farmiga (THE...

Henry Cavill cast as next SUPERMAN!

Out of seemingly nowhere Warner Bros. has officially announced who will play SUPERMAN in the upcoming Zack Snyder (300, WATCHMEN) directed and Christopher Nolan (BATMAN BEGINS, THE DARK KNIGHT) produced reboot film. The lucky actor who will be donning the cape will be the young 27 year old British actor Henry Cavill (THE COUNT OF MONTY CRISTO, THE TUDORS). Cavill is a relative unknown to me and I am not too familiar with his recent work. I saw him as a teenager in THE COUNT OF MONTE CRISTO and have not seen any episodes of THE TUDORS on Showtime...

PSP2 officially announced by Sony

Today in Japan Sony officially announced its next portable gaming system. At the moment the code name for the new system is NGP which stands for “Next Generation Portable” but in all likelihood it will be called “PSP2” if Sony’s gaming history has anything to say about it (PSONE, PS2, PS3). This new portable device has a projected release date for 2011 but no official date or pricing for the system has been revealed. Sony did say to expect it out for the 2011 holiday shopping season (likely September or November). A few new notable features include an all...

First official photo for new Thundercats cartoon!

Today we get our first “official” look at Warner Bros. new THUNDERCATS cartoon that will be airing on WB’s own Cartoon Network. The new series will air sometime in 2011, but an official date has yet to be confirmed. I consider myself a pretty big fan (not die hard) of the original series and toy line. I am excited to see this new series being developed for fans and newcomers alike. I dig the new anime inspired style that is obviously reminiscent of NARUTO. In any case I think this new pic of the main four characters (Lion-O, Panthro,...

Top Ten Movies of 2010

1. KICK-ASS: This was the most fun I had at the theater this year hands down. The idea of someone like you or me deciding to become a super hero without any powers or experience (other than reading a crap ton of comic books) is simply awesome! I love the world created here. This film has some of the best action scenes ever, an interesting story, amazingly eccentric characters (Nicolas Cage is in top form), and a cool soundtrack. This is why I go to the movies people! 2. INCEPTION: Christopher Nolan’s Sci-Fi Action movie is an intensely well-crafted film....
