Movie Review: SUCKER PUNCH

A forward to ALL my readers: Zach Snyder’s SUCKER PUNCH is no doubt going to be the ultimate “love it or hate it” movie of the year. Your “expectations” for this movie are going to greatly influence your experience and overall enjoyment. If you go into this film thinking it will have an intricate story filled with deep characterization you will be sorely disappointed. What we have here is a fun fantasy epic that is visually stunning, has a breathtakingly unique style, awesome set pieces, amazingly choreographed action sequences, and some of the most bad ass moments I have seen in...

Movie Trailer: The Big Bang

Thanks to Cinemablend.com we get the first trailer for THE BIG BANG by unknown director Tony Krantz starring Antonio Banderas (DESPERADO, THE MASK OF ZORRO). Also, thanks to Comingsoon.net for the awesome scan of the movie poster above! THE BIG BANG is a neo-noir action film about a private detective (Banderas) who is hired to find a missing stripper. Sounds cool to me. I do miss me some Banderas with a gun! The supporting cast for this one looks pretty awesome (if not overcrowded) and includes the legendary Sam Elliot (TOMBSTONE, THE GOLDEN COMPASS) and William Fichtner (DRIVE ANGRY,...

The full trailer for this Summer’s CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE FIRST AVENGER is finally here! We got our first sneak peak earlier this year during the Super Bowl but that was just a 30 second tease. In Defense Of: Nicolas Cage

Nicolas Cage has been entertaining us for nearly 30 years now and I have always considered him as one of my favorite actors. I had always enjoyed his work, but it was not until I saw him in the 1987 comedy masterpiece RAISING ARIZONA, directed by the amazing Coen Brothers (NO COUNTRY FOR OLD MEN, TRUE GRIT), that I thought to myself that he was a truly amazing and talented actor. His character of H.I. McDunnough is arguably the best character in any movie to me and is a huge inspiration for myself as a comedian. A lot of...

Darren Aronofsky off THE WOLVERINE, but DAREDEVIL reboot gets a director!

THE WOLVERINE: I was really beginning to get excited for the latest Wolverine movie especially with Darren Aronofsky (THE WRESTLER, BLACK SWAN) attached to direct. Apparently now he has officially left the project after months of building hype and excitement for the project. I was so happy to finally see a competent director tackle this iconic character and give him some much deserved justice after the disappointing origin story we got in 2009 in X-MEN ORIGINS: WOLVERINE. Here is what Aronofsky and Twentieth Century Fox had to say about it all: Aronofsky: “As I talked more about the film...

New BATMAN: ARKHAM CITY gameplay trailer kicks ass!

I am a huge fan of 2009’s BATMAN: ARKHAM ASYLUM and consider it one of the best games I have played in a very long time. It really is the perfect Batman game. It blends an interesting story with a great cast of characters, intense action, stealth and detective elements, sweet art design, and some cool hidden goodies for longtime fans. It really encapsulates everything that Batman fans love and has made me more of a Batman fan than I ever was in the past. So you can understand why I am eagerly awaiting the follow-up BATMAN: ARKHAM CITY....

Movie Review: BATTLE: LOS ANGELES

BATTLE: LOS ANGELES is the latest alien invasion flick to land in theaters directed by relative unknown Jonathan Liebesman (DARKNESS FALLS, THE KILLING FIELDS) and starring the stoic Aaron Eckhart (THE DARK KNIGHT, THANK YOU FOR SMOKING). The film follows Staff Sergeant Michael Nantz (Eckhart) as he leads a platoon of young officers to a police station where civilians are stranded during a violent alien invasion. What appears to be meteors hitting the Earth is actually alien crafts landing and attacking in an attempt to horde our natural resources. The result is an action packed film that rarely stops...

Movie Trailer: Super 8

The absolutely superb trailer for the upcoming JJ Abrams (MISSION IMPOSSIBLE 3, STAR TREK) directed film hit the web earlier today alongside some new posters for the film (above and below). We caught our first official glance of SUPER 8 earlier this year in a short but sweet 30 second teaser during the Super Bowl and now we have a full blown trailer that is set to premiere alongside BATTLE: LOS ANGELES today in theaters besides obviously being online. Here is the official synopsis:  In the summer of 1979, a group of friends in a small Ohio town witness...

New Wii Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword trailer is awesome!

While we have seen early looks at THE LEGEND OF ZELDA: SKYWARD SWORD in motion at last years Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3 for short), we have never seen any footage that looks as good as the newest trailer. The newest trailer is from the recent Game Developers Conference (GDC for short) is awesome and gives us a more solid look as to what we can expect! The LEGEND OF ZELDA franchise is my favorite among all video games by far, and I play an awful lot of games. I always look forward to a new adventure and the Zelda...

Movie Review: Drive Angry 3D

The latest Nicolas Cage (RAISING ARIZONA, KICK-ASS) movie to speed into theaters is the Patrick Lussier (MY BLOODY VALENTINE, DRACULA 2000) directed thrill-ride DRIVE ANGRY 3D. The film Stars Cage as a vengeful father named Milton who busts out of hell in order to find and kill all the people responsible for murdering his daughter and kidnapping his baby granddaughter. This film is intended to be a non-stop action movie full of crazy characters, insane action scenes, and cheesy dialogue all in eye-popping 3D for added fun. While some of those goals are met in this film, the overall...

Jon Chu officially set to direct G.I. Joe sequel after Justin Bieber documentary

Well it’s official, the guy who brought us the recent documentary JUSTIN BIEBER: NEVER SAY NEVER and the two latest installments in the STEP UP franchise has been officially hired on to direct the G.I. JOE sequel from Paramount Pictures. First we get news that the screenwriter for the new HIGHLANDER reboot is the same as the one for TWILIGHT and now this! In all fairness the director has worked with Channing Tatum (THE EAGLE, FIGHTING) in STEP UP 2: THE STREETS and seems to be quite respectful of the G.I. JOE franchise itself. Here is a little bit...

Movie Trailer: Ironclad

This film has seemingly come out of nowhere and looks pretty damn awesome. IRONCLAD comes from the almost unknown director Jonathan English (NAILING VIENNA, MINOTAUR) who I have never heard of before I saw this kick ass trailer. IRONCLAD tells the tale a group of men who must defend their castle against the tyrannical menace of King John in the south coast of England circa 1215. IRONCLAD stars the sword-wielding veteran James Purefoy (ROME, SOLOMON KANE) and co-stars the amazing Brian Cox (DEADWOOD, TROY) and Paul Giamatti (SHOOT EM’ UP, SIDEWAYS) as the the tyrant king. I gotta say...

Movie Review: I Am Number Four

I AM NUMBER FOUR is the latest sci-fi action movie from director D.J. Caruso (EAGLE EYE, DISTURBIA) and is produced by action veteran Michael Bay (TRANSFORMERS Series, THE ISLAND). The story is written for the screen by the sci-fi action duo of Alfred Gough and Miles Millar who you will most readily recognize for their joint work on TV’s SMALLVILLE which this film is almost immediately comparable. We have a young dashing teenager who happens to really be an alien on the run with his mentor/father figure trying to blend in while discovering all the awesome superpowers and abilities...

Spider-Man reboot gets an official movie title AND first shot of full costume!

To celebrate Valentines Day (maybe?) Sony Pictures has decided to reveal the official movie title for the Spider-Man reboot which will be called THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN! We also get out first official look of Spidey in his new costume mask and all! This new costume maintains the classic color scheme and gives the design more of a “checkered” look compared to what we are use too. If you are a big Spider-Man nerd like myself you will also notice that Spider-Man has actual web-shooters this time around instead of the previous movies where Peter Parker naturally created his web...

X-Men: First Class movie trailer is finally here!

Thanks to the X-Men Movies Facebook Fan Page we get our first official look at X-MEN: FIRST CLASS from director Matthew Vaughn (KICK-ASS, LAYER CAKE). I am a lifelong fan of the X-Men (mainly CYCLOPS) and have been anticipating this trailer for a long time. I should not be as excited for this film as I am since the X-Men film re-imaginings have been less than amazing as a whole AND my favorite mutant CYCLOPS has not been treated well. I absolutely loved the first X-MEN movie and thought it captured the spirit of the X-Men and added something...

Movie Review: The Mechanic

THE MECHANIC comes to us from director Simon West (CON AIR, LARA CROFT: TOMB RAIDER) starring consistent bad-ass Jason Statham (THE TRANSPORTER, THE EXPENDABLES) and the always talented Ben Foster (3:10 TO YUMA, PANDORUM). THE MECHANIC is a remake of the 1972 film of the same name starring Charles Bronson (DEATH WISH SERIES, THE MAGNIFICENT SEVEN). I hesitate to confidently say THE MECHANIC is the smart man’s action movie but it comes awful close. This is not a mindless action flick but rather a decently crafted story with characters that have some depth to them as opposed to a...
